It's inevitable to eventually notice in the trends for your RTU or AHU that 75F tracks conditioning mode and operation mode. They sound and look like the same thing!
Conditioning Mode - is the user intent, or user selected setting. Options include Off, Auto, Cool Only, or Heat Only.
Operation Mode - The mode that the system is actually operating in. If Auto is selected as the conditioning mode, then the operation mode tells you whether the system is operating off the heating loop output or the cooling loop output.
The Table below is a better illustration of the mode applicable for building:
Configuration / Mapping (Relay/ Analog) | Conditioning Mode | Operating Mode | Failsafe scenario |
Only Cooling Stages / Modulating Cooling | Off | None | None |
Cool Only | Cooling | Cooling
Only Heating Stages / Modulating Heating | Off | None | None |
Heat Only | Heating | Heating
Cooling Stages / Modulating Cooling & Heating Stages / Modulating Heating | Auto | Cooling/Heating | Cooling/Heating |
Cool Only | Cooling | Cooling
Heat Only | Heating | Heating
Off | None | None |
