| Overview
The USB Manager is a new feature introduced exclusively in the CCUXR to simplify the management of multiple USB-based communication interfaces. The 75F system supports various field communication protocols, and identifying the correct USB port for each protocol was previously challenging, especially when multiple devices were connected.
The USB Manager resolves this by automatically detecting all connected USB devices and allowing users to assign each device to a specific communication protocol.
The USB Manager can be accessed from the CCU settings screen, as shown below.
| Purpose
The primary purpose of the USB Manager is to:
Provide clear visibility into all USB devices connected to the CCU.
Enable assignment of communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, BACnet MSTP) to individual USB ports.
Allow simultaneous use of multiple RS485 dongles for multi-network deployments.
Reduce configuration errors caused by unclear port mapping.
| Functionality
Device Enumeration
When USB devices (such as RS485 dongles) are connected to the CCU, the USB Manager automatically:
Detects each device.
Enumerates them in a structured table within Communication Settings.
Displays their unique identifiers for easy recognition.
Protocol Binding
For each enumerated device, a Protocol drop-down menu lets users select the protocol to associate with that USB port. Supported protocols include:
Modbus
BACnet MSTP (upcoming, currently in final testing)
Once a protocol is selected, the system binds that USB device to the designated communication layer.
COM Port Assignment
After protocol binding, users can specify which COM port the protocol should operate on during device pairing.
For example:
Assign Modbus to COM1
Assign BACnet MSTP to COM3
This eliminates ambiguity and ensures that each protocol communicates through the correct network interface.
| Multi-Dongle Support
Previously, the CCU supported only one USB dongle.
With the introduction of the USB Manager, CCUXR now supports up to three RS485 dongles simultaneously, enabling:
Multiple Modbus networks
Parallel Modbus and BACnet MSTP networks
Greater deployment flexibility in APAC and other regions
This enhancement addresses a long-standing customer request and aligns with the field's increasing protocol diversification.
| Benefits
Streamlined configuration workflow
Reduced port identification complexity
Support for multi-network deployments
Future-ready design for expanding protocol support
Improved scalability and field flexibility
