| Overview

A Special Schedule is a schedule that allows a Facility manager to introduce a schedule that is outside of a Building Occupancy. For example, a Facility manager would want to schedule the building on a Saturday for a small duration for which he would want the building's HVAC equipment to run. It further provides the flexibility to create a schedule that overrides a vacation that is created based on a holiday calendar for a year at any specific date which is an active nonholiday for the building.

A schedule like this on a Saturday or on any public holiday that is outside of the actual building schedule has been made possible with the Introduction of a Special Schedule.

The special schedule is a schedule that once added will bypass the zone schedule, Shared Schedule, or any vacation for that zone for that specific time duration, acting as a kind of master schedule. This is quite similar to vacation which can override any schedule but in a reversible way.

| Non-Zero Deadband

This feature ensures that the heating and cooling deadband can be set to a minimum of 0.5°F, preventing a zero deadband scenario and ensuring compliance with Guideline 36. By implementing this, the heating and cooling desired temperatures will never be equal, even if set to their minimum values and there will always be a difference of 1F between the heating and cooling deadband.

| Validations

For more information on Special schedule validations refer to Scheduler Validations.

| Calculation for Setback Temperatures based on Special Schedule

Let us consider a scenario where in a building that follows a default Monday-to-Friday schedule with desired heating and cooling temperatures set to 70°F and 74°F respectively, the schedule typically ends at 8 PM on Friday. After this time period, the building enters an unoccupied state, where the setback temperatures are adjusted to 65°F for heating and 79°F for cooling.

However, if a Facility Manager assigns a special schedule for Sunday from 11 AM to 4 PM, the unoccupied setback temperatures during this period are set to 63°F for heating and 77°F for cooling. Once the special Sunday schedule ends, the system will revert to the original unoccupied setback temperatures of 65°F and 79°F respectively.
