| Overview

The Master Controller in the Facilisight Portal serves as the centralized building-wide temperature control interface. It allows administrators and installers to define the temperature boundaries that govern all zones within a building. These settings establish the permissible heating and cooling ranges, building breach limits, deadbands, and other temperature-related controls that are applied across connected zones and CCUs.

| Purpose of Master Controller

The Master Controller provides a building-level framework for temperature management by:

  • Defining allowable user setpoint ranges.
  • Establishing high and low temperature limits that trigger building breach conditioning and alerts.
  • Maintaining occupant comfort while preventing excessive heating or cooling.
  • Enforcing consistent temperature policies across all zones within the building.
  • Supporting energy-efficient operation through centralized temperature management.

| Access Building Options

To access Building Options:

  • Log in to the Facilisight Portal.

  • Select the desired site from the Sites page.

  • Navigate to the Site Settings icon.

  • Click the Building Options from the left navigation menu.

  • The Building Options Temperature Control page opens.

  • Users can view the Building Occupancy details from the Scheduling menu.

| Features

Building Limits:

Building Limits define the maximum and minimum temperatures permitted for the building.

When a space temperature exceeds these thresholds, the system can identify a potential heating or cooling issue and generate alerts. Building breach conditioning may also be initiated when configured limits are violated.

Example:

  • Building Low Limit: 48°F
  • Building High Limit: 100°F

If a zone temperature rises above or falls below these values, the system recognizes the condition as a building-level limit breach.

User Limits (Heating and Cooling Limits):

User Limits control the range within which occupants can adjust their desired temperature setpoints.

For example:

  • Heating Limit: 73°F to 79°F
  • Cooling Limit: 79°F to 85°F
Zones cannot exceed these administrator-defined boundaries from the portal, thermostat, or other connected smart devices. Any expansion of these ranges must first be made at the Master Controller level.

Heating Deadband:

Defines the temperature buffer applied around heating control.

Cooling Deadband:

Defines the temperature buffer applied around cooling control.

Benefits include:

  • Reduced equipment cycling
  • Improved HVAC efficiency
  • Enhanced occupant comfort
  • Extended equipment life

Example values shown in the portal:

  • Heating Deadband: 2°F
  • Cooling Deadband: 2°F

Building-to-Zone Differential:

The Building-to-Zone Differential specifies the allowable variance between building-level limits and individual zone temperatures.

This setting provides flexibility for local zone operation while ensuring that temperatures remain within acceptable building-wide boundaries.

Example:

  • Building-to-Zone Differential: 3°F

Unoccupied Zone Setback:

The Unoccupied Zone Setback determines how much zone temperatures may drift from occupied setpoints during unoccupied periods.

This feature helps reduce energy consumption while maintaining acceptable conditions when spaces are not in use.

Example:

  • Unoccupied Zone Setback: 5°F

  • Click Re-Edit to return to the Overwrite Existing Zone Schedule page.

  • Scroll down to the Temperature Settings section.

  • Update the Heating User Limits so that they fall outside the allowed building limits.

  • Click Save Schedule.

Validation Report (Outside Heating Limits):

  • A validation message appears when the configured schedule contains heating setpoints that fall outside the allowed building heating limits.
  • The report identifies the impacted site(s), affected time slots, current schedule values, and the permitted building limits.
  • Review the reported violations, and then click Re-Edit to modify the schedule and bring it within the configured building constraints.

  • Click Re-Edit to return to the Overwrite Existing Zone Schedule page.

  • Update the Cooling User Limits so that they fall outside the allowed building limits.

  • Click Save Schedule.

Validation Report (Outside Cooling Limits):

  • A validation message appears when the configured schedule contains cooling setpoints that fall outside the allowed building cooling limits.
  • The report identifies the impacted site(s), affected time slots, current schedule values, and the permitted building limits.
  • Review the reported violations, and then click Re-Edit to modify the schedule and bring it within the configured building constraints.

| Validation Report (Recurring Schedules)

To access Recurring Schedule:

  • Select the desired schedule from the Recurring Schedules list.

  • Click Edit Schedule.

  • Extend the occupied time slot beyond the site's configured Building Occupancy period.

  • Click Save Schedule.

  • The system validates the schedule against the Building Occupancy settings.

Note: If any occupied period extends beyond the permitted Building Occupancy hours, the schedule cannot be saved, and a validation report is displayed.

Validation Report (Recurring Schedules):

The validation pop-up includes the following information:

  • Site Name: Displays the site where the violation occurs.
  • Building Occupancy Validation: Indicates that the shared recurring schedule is outside the configured Building Occupancy limits.
  • Schedule Outside By: Lists the affected days and time periods that exceed the allowed occupancy window.
  • Re-Edit: Returns the user to the schedule editor so the occupancy periods can be corrected.

  • Click Re-Edit in the validation pop-up.

  • Move the time slot to the previous slot.

  • Update the Heating and Cooling User Limits so that they fall outside the allowed building limits.

  • Click Save Schedule.

  • The system validates the schedule against the configured building heating and cooling limits.

Note: If the configured heating and cooling value is outside the permitted range, the schedule cannot be saved and a validation report is displayed.

The validation pop-up includes the following information:

  • Site Name: Displays the site where the violation occurs.
  • Impacted Slots: Identifies the affected schedule time slots.
  • Current Schedule Value: Displays the heating and cooling value configured in the schedule.
