| Overview
With the growing popularity of HyperStat, the hospitality industry was not an exception. Many small to large hotels were willing to install HyperStat in the customer rooms to make micro-level room control possible. HyperStat was successful in delivering what was promised, in terms of comfort and energy savings.
HyperStat being that successful the customers had a small problem and a suggestion for 75F, it is the brightness in the HyperStat UI screens, which caused problems when the HyperStat was installed close to the view of the customer, which did not make the rooms completely dark during nights.
Owing to this problem and suggestion, the 75F has added a feature in the HyperStat to reduce the screen brightness, to make sure the intensity of light coming out of the screens was not too high when set up.
| Setting LUX Values for the Screen Brightness Calulation
It is an option in the installer options screen of HyperStat, It lets the user enable the automatic screen brightness setting option, and specify the lower and upper LUX (Sensed lux) limits to be considered for the same.
To set enable auto screen brightness and set the ower and upper LUX limits.
From the home screen of the UI
- Press the + & - buttons together to navigate to the other screens of the HyperStat
The Inputs screen is displayed initially
- Press the next button to navigate to the Installer options screen
The installer options screen is displayed.
- Press the down arrow
to navigate to the options available under the screen.
- Press the down arrow
again to navigate to the Brightness option.
- Press the Select button to access the screen brightness options available.
- Press the down
arrow to navigate to the Auto screen brightness enabling option.
- Press the Select button to access the Auto screen brightness enabling option.
- Press the up
arrow button or the down
arrow button to enable or disable the Auto screen brightness option.
- Press Deselect button to confirm the selection.
- Press the down
arrow to navigate to the Lower Lux limit setting option. to set the lower lux limit to be considered for the auto brightness calculation.
Note: The max and min by default will be 0 and 40.
- Press the Select button to access the Lower lux limit setting options.
- Press the up
arrow button or the down
arrow button or use the touch slider to modify the lux values for the Lower lux limit.
- Press Deselect button to confirm the selection.
- Press the Down
arrow to navigate to the upper lux limit setting option, to set the lower lux limit to be considered for the auto brightness calculation.
- Press the Select button to access the upper lux limit setting options.
- Press the up
arrow button or the down
arrow button or use the touch slider to modify the lux values for the upper lux limit.
- Press the Deselect button to confirm the selection.
Thus, the screen brightness for the HyperStat is set to the required limit as below.
HyperStat accepts the LUX sensor values as input, and based on the interactivity by the user on the device, it automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen.
At the lowest LUX value, the screen will be the dimmest and brightest at the highest LUX value.
| Formula Used & Example Illustration
Formula
Automatic Screen Brightness = ((Light Intensity Sensed - Lower Lux Limit Set)* 100)/ Upper Lux Limit
Where,
Light Intensity Sensed is curtailed to sit between the lower and upper lux limits,
If the limit sensed is anything more than the set lower and upper limits, the lux value will be considered as the upper limit set.
Example
lower & Upper Lux Limits | Sensed Lux | Considered Lux |
0 & 40 | anything greater than 40 | 0 & 40 |
10 & 30 | anything between 10 & 30 | 10 & Value between 10 & 30 |
Example Illustration
Scenario 1: let's consider the sensed lux for the room= 40
Set Lux values are 0 & 40
Then,
Automatic Screen Brightness = ((Light Intensity Sensed - Lower Lux Limit Set)* 100)/ Upper Lux Limit
= ((40-0)*100)/40
= 4000/40
Automatic Screen Brightness = 100% of the brightness capability
Scenario 2: Let's consider the sensed lux for the room= 10
Set Lux values are 0 & 40
Then,
Automatic Screen Brightness = ((Light Intensity Sensed - Lower Lux Limit Set)* 100)/ Upper Lux Limit
= ((10-0)*100)/40
= 1000/40
Automatic Screen Brightness = 25% of the brightness capability
Note: If No User Interacts with the device (Up/Down/FAN-MODE button), then the brightness reduces by 50%, but once the User Interacts the screen takes the calculated brightness.
